I Play Musical Instruments

Well I attempt to but damn chord changes on the electric guitar are frustrating to do quickly. Taking up bass guitar and singing lessons soon as well which may be a little easier. Possibly starting drums too . Thought it may be difficult including feet in my already bad hand-eye co ordination but at least I can say I tried.

I tried guitar. I was told it would be too difficult to learn to play left handed ):

That was the barrier for me. If I want a left-handed guitar I pretty much have to buy a new one because they're rare as hens' teeth. I could flip over and re-string a right-handed guitar but it seems clunky and awkward with the knobs at the top.

I could imagine it would be more difficult as most teachers would be right handed but a lot of well known guitar icons played left handed or were left handed and learnt how to play right handed including Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney,Kurt Cobain, Tony Iommi (to name a few). I hope it doesn't put you off altogether. In the end we all start somewhere, a bit like riding a bike or writing your name as a small kid.
@crossproduct: That's the route I went, trying to flip it over. Results were less than great. I might try acoustic some day.

have you considered drums or anything instead?

@DesiredNightmare: Yeah, I think it's best to go straight for the left-handed guitar. I've been told it's a bad idea to try to learn right-handed even though fretting is much easier.
drums are to big and noisy lol
I've just kinda shelved my music interests for now

@Skele-pop666: I can't remember what Iommi did, but ISTR Hendrix used a flipped right-handed guitar and McCartney used a proper left-handed guitar.

@DesiredNightmare: How about a synth? They're ambidextrous and you can practice with headphones on, like with an electric guitar.
@crossproduct: Maybe once I find a job. I got a guitar for free and figured I'd give it a shot. If I need to start buying stuffs I'll just wait and get what I want/need.

sorry to hear that @DesiredNightmare, a synth sounds like a good idea.
@crossproduct I can't remember how Iommi did it either I just remember that he lost 2 fingers on his fretting hand.

i personally always found it wierd that with guitar you use your weakest hand the most. You would have thought that you should use your more dominant hand to fret and your weakest hand to strum due to the amount of movements with your fingers.
@Skele-pop666: I've wondered that exact same thing

@DesiredNightmare: I was told that picking is actually the task that requires the most dexterity (sinisterity?) I tried it right-handed and that was the barrier.
Skelepop666 · 36-40, F
haha. I know people will say strumming is just as important (there's no point in knowing a load of chords if you can't get a half decent rhythm out), I'm basing the wonder purely out out the different movements/ positions/ stretches on the fingers themselves. :)

Everyone has a barrier, it's the perseverance that gets you over it. You really both do seem interested in it though so I hope it works out for the two of you :)
@Skele-pop666: I'm really thinking about finding a cheap acoustic somewhere and giving it a shot. youtube and I will be best friends lol
SW-User
@DesiredNightmare: I'll eventually fork out for a new guitar, but I have other things that need the money right now. I've been meaning to learn to play for a long time, it feels like being illiterate not being able to play guitar.

There are some really good videos on youtube for playing guitars left handed.
I know what you mean @crossproduct.
