Tobacco was a drug epidemic so big that cars were sold with cigarette lighters and ash trays in them. Think about it, you went to a car lot and bought a new car with drug paraphernalia built right into it from the factory. People died like flies in their 60s from that filthy habit. They literally put smoke from burning weeds into the organs they needed to breathe. They hacked and coughed like crazy back then as their lung tissue fought to survive what they were doing to it. Public places stunk like hell. If you think weed smoke stinks, that shit stunk way worse. I've been at camp fires, caught smoke in the face was the wind shifted, it's no where near the stink of that shit. I stayed in a hotel that people used to smoke in 20 years ago. There was so much filthy smoke in the woodwork that my clothes stunk of it just from hanging in a closet there. No one had smoked in that room in decades and it still stunk.
@HobNoblin the first movie I remember being brought to in the cinema was the Muppet movie in the early 1980s, I remember being hardly able to see the screen because there was so much smoke.

There were ashtrays and lighters in every car here up until about 20 years ago.

I had a job when I was 23 and people in the office smoked at their desk, that was in 1995.

Dyson wasn't around in the 50s, it would have been a Hoover as the go to descriptor of vacuum cleaners. Very funny though.

Ya, back then everyone smoked, teachers in schools, in department stores, restaurants, police, etc.,.

@basilfawlty89 No wonder 10-year-old me couldn't resist buying these magazines. Even when I found out that there was always a mundane reason why the cover was not quite what it seemed, I kept buying. There! You've had the confession of an addict, 😄
@basilfawlty89 omg they are fantastic 😆😆😆😆 thanks for sharing with me
