She was a brilliant writer. Realistic, humorous, satirical, and romantic all at once.

Her house in Chawton, where she wrote most of her books, is not far from where I live.
Interesting to visit.
Some of the original furniture.
However, the clothing is reproduction - worn by Anne Hathaway in "Becoming Jane".

@emmasfriend I’d love to visit the house some day. I visited one of Dickens’s homes in London last time I was there.

I am a big fan of Jane Austen. I have read all of her novels ( and with the exception of Persuasion, I have read them twice. Persuasion will be on next summer's reading list!) I have also read her short novel Lady Susan and her unfinished works ,The Waltons and Sanditon. I've even read some of her letters to her sister Cassandra, as well as a couple of biographies.
I usually avoid watching movies of novels I enjoy, as I don't want the images and impressions I have formed from the pages of a book to be supplanted by actors. But I have gradually come to recognize that Jane Austen paints such vivid characters that the originals still are foremost in my mind even when watching a film. It is comparable to watching Shakespeare: "ah, that is how this production is doing things."
Still, I have seen only a few film versions, and the BBC version has not been one of them -- yet.
My favorite part of S & S is the friendship we see between Colonel Brandon and Elinor. At the end, I think I am more happy for him on account of the sister-in-law he is gaining than for the wife he is marrying! lol

@DrWatson As a fellow fan of Ms Austen (whose 250th birthday is this coming Dec 16), I need to know if you're aware of Rosamund Pike's audiobook version of S&S. For me she really brought out more of Austen's sly wit which I had missed when I read S&S however many years ago. Audiobooks are a great thing for a long car trip, and Pike's readings are a delight!
