Grave of the fireflies, my sophomore history teacher put it on in class and even though it took a couple days to finish it I loved it. Definitely made me cry
itisntanything · 22-25
@Gelartsyyy It’s definitely a heart wrencher but it’s beautiful. I hope you get the courage to watch it! You won’t regret it!
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
@itisntanything I've read the plot before and it hurts man 🙃 maybe I will when I'm in the mood to cry my heart out
@Gelartsyyy the director lived through the bombing. I feel like we're so blessed as a country that Japan ever forgave america. after the bombings they seem to have decided Never again....

I have to admire them for it... And it was just the nukes, we firebombed the shit out of them Japan paid a horrible price for it's warcrimes...

in war it's the innocents and civilians who suffer.

The only feature I haven't seen is My Neighbors the Yamadas.
I rewatched Spirited Away recently. That one is incredibly creative.
Princess Mononoke was another masterpiece.
I like movies by Isao Takahata just as much, only in a different way.
For example, the Tale of the Princess Kaguya has awesome artistic style!
And the last movie that stood out for me was When Marnie Was There.
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
@CrazyMusicLover I heard When Marnie Was There was a sad one??? I haven't read the plot yet.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Gelartsyyy Yes it was sad and a little bit confusing. I didn't like how it turned out but perhaps just because the movie got me other ideas than what it really was about. Anyway, I liked the emotional complexity of characters.
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
@CrazyMusicLover welp, looks like another movie I'd rather not watch 😬 I can't handle sad films lol

Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are my two favorites as well. Haven't seen The Cat Returns, but I would like to. :)
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
@SW-User it's cuteee plus I like the idea of another world where cats can walk and talk like humans
DareeQn · 26-30, F

@Gelartsyyy aweeee yayy! :)
Definitely Spirited Away, followed by The Wind Rises, Princess Mononoke, and Grave of the Fireflies.
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
@LeopoldBloom I don't think I can bear to watch Grave of the Fireflies 😭 I've watched Princess Mononoke and liked it, but it's not one of my favorites.
@Gelartsyyy Yeah, it's brutal, on the level of live-action films like Sansho the Bailiff or Fire on the Plains.
@Gelartsyyy I keep running into softies like you on here who just cannot watch this kind of thing...

I watched "rumbling hearts" aka kimi ga nozumu eien... you think a war anime is hard? hahahaha..
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
they're all good, but Mononoke and Totoro obviously
@Ryannnnnn I wouldn't say they're all good. Ponyo was pretty bad.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
@LeopoldBloom I haven't actually seen Ponyo I don't think
@Ryannnnnn Don't bother.
what is up with everyone deciding to explore ghibili at exactly the same time I did anyways?

Effloresce · 26-30, F
Kiki's Delivery Service!!
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
@Effloresce I've watched that once, but I don't remember the plot much other than the fact that she went to the human world for training???
DDonde · 31-35, M
I've been meaning to see more of them!
I've seen Totoro and I enjoyed it.
Gelartsyyy · 22-25, F
@DDonde you should definitely watch Spirited Away!!
