And yes, it was called "Palestine" when it was under Ottoman control, and later under the British Mandate, but it wasn't a "country." Would it make you happy if Israel changed its name to Palestine?

@LeopoldBloom Palestine was never a nation. It was a region....That said, it's relevant that standards of today should not be judged for years that there wasn't an application. The spoils of planet earth were basically divided up after WWII by the allies. The same is kind of true of Tibet. It was considered by many to be a sovereign nation which was occupied by China. The British actually created a new word for the relationship between Tibet and China - suzerainty. The idea was that Tibet was an independent nation whose foreign policy was managed by China....You'll make the very valid case that the British were not at liberty to define the relationship of two nations....but it does say something about the agreement between the two governing bodies.

@Roundandroundwego What about invader countries like China? Or they're OK because they're not white? And it's not like Jews are in the Middle East as invaders. There was always a Jewish community in what is now Israel. Many Palestinians are descended from people who emigrated there from the surrounding countries at the same time European Jews were arriving. But if it tickles you to categorize it as evil white people taking over land from brown people, go right ahead. The first Jewish settlers purchased land from the Ottomans, who controlled the area. It hadn't been under Arab control for centuries.

I don't know who "you" are, but Hamas rhetoric includes "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." Textbooks in Hamas schools do not even show Israel on the map, a violation of the Oslo Accords. So maybe you personally are OK with tolerance, but the people you support aren't.

@originnone I'm aware that Palestine was never an independent country. Even the name comes from the word for the Roman province, Syria Palaestina. The only time that area was independent was when it was a Jewish kingdom in antiquity.

Tibet on the other hand was an independent country, with a different religion, language, and culture from China. Suzerainty was not invented for China's domination, however. That concept goes back into antiquity and applies to many different places.

@LeopoldBloom invaders lie about others and nobody thinks you would stop - nobody can reason with Israel or the USA. But we don't have apartheid South Africa any more. Or the dodo. We can hope you go next.

Just curious, are there any other countries you hate besides Israel and the U.S.? Maybe you're a big fan of Putin and his selfless quest to liberate Ukraine from its Jewish president?

@Roundandroundwego That's not what I asked. I didn't ask you to confirm that you hate the US and Israel, I asked if you hate any other countries. What's your opinion of China's invasion of Tibet and suppression of Tibetan religion and culture? I guess it's OK with you because no Jews are involved.

Why can't you come out and say "China's policy in Tibet is oppressive and must end." Are you such a tankie that you can't criticize anyone except the USA and Israel? You also said that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is "fake." It's not fake for the people living there.

You must be pretty disappointed that the Arab countries have basically given up on the Palestinians and aren't showing much interest in attacking Israel. Maybe you can move to Gaza and join Hamas and fire off a few rockets. I'm sure they just need a few more to be victorious.
