This is a very unilateral way of looking at things...
How about the other end:

Women's lib - USA style

There's always 2 sides to that coin... and both side has it's own perspective and support.
The moment you stop having the 'us vs them' mentality, you'd be more open to understand something that you just simply do not or refuse to. There's pros any cons to all perspectives, not just that of your own.

To think otherwise is very naive.

That was an education program in Kabul. Perhaps you would like our ladies to attend like that? Or are you so naive?@Eidolon

@Grvstu and the picture I posted is of pregnant teenagers in USA.
Norms are different amongst people in different part of the worlds, 'your ladies' might prefer the freedom that results in teenage pregnancies, 'their ladies' might prefer getting an education even if it means dressing up like that.
You ultimately have a choice to make on what you value most.
You're old enough to remember that it was American 'liberation' that created Osama bin Laden. If nothing else, there was a lesson to have learnt in that - do not enforce your views onto others.

As rape of teen girls is commonly happening in Afghanistan with girls used as sex slaves then your point becomes somewhat thin @Eidolon
@Eidolon Heyyyy that’s far from the norm!!!
Eidolon · M
@Grvstu That's an emotionally fuelled argument, are you suggesting that rape or sex slavery is not commonly happening in USA? Whose being naive now?

Do you know that under strict Sharia-derived legislation, even mere consensual sexual relations outside of marriage is criminalised?

What is your point in you posting that photo really? Are you saying that they are not liberated? or are you measuring their liberation by your yardstick? are you suggesting that they should rather not seek education if it means they need to be dressed like that?
Either way, you are biased and not capable of understanding that even if it means being dressed like that, it's tons better than what they ever had before.
You may not like what their freedom and liberation entails, but you can't deny that it is slowly unfolding in that direction whether you like it or not. It's easy to sit across the way and wave your finger. Do something more constructive rather than mock and ridicule others. If you care so much about their liberation, do something positive and try to benefit them.
Ridiculing them from afar is not helping their case, and neither makes your stance very praiseworthy or noteworthy.
@Eidolon sex slavery is NOT sanctioned by law… and that’s a whole other matter!!!

You obviously don’t know what is actually going on in these places. Sorry to impose upon your complete ignorance but why do you think we support charities which are trying to rescue girls from these horrors? You are obviously very ill informed. Would you like a society would to be like that ruled by the gun? Why don’t you go and live there?@Eidolon
Eidolon · M
@NoGamesTolerated and that is ultimately the point. 'norms' are relative. One's own idea of liberation should not be a justification to ridicule somebody else's idea of liberation. Everything should be based on merit. To simply mock another based on your visual preference is very shallow and naive.
@Eidolon I’m not mocking them but I think it’s a brutal shame. Imo
@Eidolon And my point was that Muslim women can be raped by husbands and upheld by law. Evil
Grvstu · 70-79, F
Maybe you would like to live in their ‘relative norm’. Some of us appreciate the freedom women enjoy here.@Eidolon
Eidolon · M
@Grvstu oh forgive me, I didn't realise that you were supporting charities that rescue girls from these horrors. Now that you've mentioned that, by all means, feel free to ridicule them all you want.
Grvstu · 70-79, F
You don’t think the enslavement and oppression of women is a horror? Typical male. @Eidolon

@Grvstu
You don’t think the enslavement and oppression of women is a horror? Typical male.
I fail to see where or how you derived this drivel, but being that this entire thread is solely about your unilateral views and perception. I suppose there's absolutely nothing anyone can say or do for you to introspect.
Grvstu · 70-79, F
This ‘drivel’ is derived from reality you moron.from things which are actually happening in our world today while people like you stick your head in the sZnd@Eidolon
Eidolon · M
@Grvstu There's absolutely no point even talking to you is there? Let alone trying to have an intellectual argument.
Moron? really? If I'm the moron between the 2 of us, anyone who can simply read would be able to look at our conversation here and it would render you 'a very special kind of special'.
In fact, there should be warning labels on the cutlery in your house, I wouldn't even trust you with a spoon. You incompetent mammal you.
Grvstu · 70-79, F
Intellectual argument? How can you have an intellectual argument with an empty head like you have? You’re an absolute plonker. There are people being killed in Afghanistan at this moment - just heard it on the radio. Because people like you don’t care at all. Just sit in your cosy little liberal haven of dreams@Eidolon
