What are omega three/fish oil tablets good for?

Not much.
Usually the collected oil has been in a tanker for 3 months before it arrives at the factory.
By that time it's rancid and no longer capable of the beneficial effects on heart health.

The best sources of Omega 3 are from wild caught oily fish. Oily fish are fish species with oil in soft tissues and in the coelomic cavity around the gut. Their fillets may contain up to 30% oil, although this figure varies both within and between species (salmon, mackerel, herring, tuna and anchovies).
Farmed fish is fed factory manufactured fish meal which lacks seaweed and algae - hanec it contains zero Omega 3.

Grass fed red meat also contains Omega 3.

Hemp oil is very high in Omega 3, but is not quite as bio-available to our digestion as the animal sources.
Linseed meal is also high in 0mega 3.
