Foreign made prescriptions

On my list of things to do today.... I wanted to strip the names off of a dozen or so prescription bottles before throwing them away.

So I'm cruising along pulling the identifying names of family members off of each bottle and I get to one that .... the entire label wants to pull off. OK fine, I strip off the entire label. And then I notice the manufacturer's label underneath the retail label I just striped off... and it says MADE IN INDIA.

Now I'm somewhat confused, because they play these ads all the time on the tube .... stating not to trust meds from foreign countries, don't buy any meds online because most of those meds are made in foreign countries, it is not safe... BLAH, BLAH, BLAH....

So...my curiosity being peaked.... I check all the meds in the house that have a retail label over a manufacturer's label.

Guess what..... Yep, all were manufactured in a foreign country.

I'm going to pay very close attention to the small print in that ad the next time I see it .... to determine just who is paying for the ad.

Many times the drug is discovered in one country but the generics at least tend to be made in other countries.
But the foreign manufacturers also have to pass inspection for purity and good manufacturing practices. Name brands tend to be made in the country that discovered them though.

But with drug prices and insurance so high and pay so low most people use generics which means mostly foreign made items. It's not a bad thing always but there IS a difference between name brand and generics and even between different generics manufacturers.

Some pharmacies will try to make a quick buck by telling you that must by law give you the cheapest manufacturer on the market. But that is a lie. What the law actually says is they CAN do that if they choose to. So they choose to and pocket the difference.

So not only keep up with the manufacturer but make sure the pharmacy is switching them out all the time because some people have ended up in the hospital with them switching between manufacturers. Sometimes the pharmacy will get lazy with the label as well and it will say one manufacturer but if you look up the pill markings it might be different. Pill indenifier is your friend is this case.
