Base numbers

A base 10 number. 10 X 10 = 100.
A base 16 number. 1F X 1F = FF, or 256.
A base 60 number, is what Wikipedia says we use for time, but we don't say base 100, or base FF, so why would time be base 60?

Anyways, I was trying to make a clock based on base 10, and it sure gets ugly fast. Halftime is 50, and we have 25 and 75 on the quarters, but then the 1/8th time is 12.5, 37.5, 62.5 and 87.5. Imagine trying to use that for time.
