My horse riding journey

I first took up riding lessons around age 10 , I were only an few months into it before I were riding without reins , without struips and getting ready to jump. But then my mum went through an breakup and could no longer take me. I then took up riding again at age 15 , I were apart of the disadvantaged kids program , meaning I got funding for my riding and my dad would drive me to my lessons. I had only been riding for two years before I were jumping around 130cm jumps and oxers ( double jumps ) I were on an equestrain team , I were 16 years old and training to be an professional show jumper. I rode almost every day of the week. I rode up to age 18 and I were just about to advance then due to personal issues between my dad and his girlfriend at the time , who were jealous of my ability , I couldnt go riding anymore. My depression got really bad again because I didnt think I would ever get to ride again. I took up riding again this year , Im not the rider I remember being , but I now ride western which I love and I mainly go on trekks in the park and the forset with groups of other ladies who had an very similar riding journey to me , an lot hadnt rode in over 10 years. I really love going on trekks.

Horseback riding is an activity suited for all ages and is also part of a program for kids with Down syndrome, where I live.

I have been riding for more than 12 years but now that I am studying away from home, I no longer have the opportunity to ride.

Take advantage as much as you can because horses have a therapeutic effect.
