Makeup?

So this is a question for the ladies... Why go through the makeup routine? I have never seen a woman (who took care of her skin/self), that didn't look better, more natural, more... oh I don't know, maybe the word is "herself" without it, than with it. With all the foundtions, mascara, eye shadow, and on and on. Sure, maybe a light touch of lipstick, or a little of this or that; but why do some women slather on all thae makeup? This question came to mind when I read something the other day about a mother trying to find less expensive makeup for her daughter who was ahving a girls makeup party.

I wear minimal makeup and take care of my skin. The older you get however, a little makeup enhances and covers areas that you may not like lol.

To be truthful, i love makeup. There are days im comfortable not putting it on but its like my face is a canvas and im the artist.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@JarJarBoom Ha! Okay, that I totally get.
Salix75 · 46-50, F
devil's advocate here...many women you think are going "natural" and not wearing makeup, are in fact wearing makeup, just not much, and skillfully applied. :)

@Salix75 I put on some blush and some mild lip color and I'm still single 🤣
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Salix75 Oh I know that, and I appreciate how skillfully applied bits of makeup can enhance. I guess I meant, when I said "slather on" those who completely change how they look. I should ahve better phrased my question.

@frequentlyme I hear you. I see some (mostly younger) women these days with so much foundation their skin no longer looks like skin, and don't get me started on the current trend of drawn on thick, dense eyebrows that look more like strips of electrical tape stuck on over their eyes!! 😖
Makeup is an art. I think of it as a hobby. I paint. That includes my face. It's fun. I like applying it and I like how it looks. I don't do it to impress other people. If you don't like makeup, then don't wear it. Easy peasy.

@Nadie Okay, that's understandable.

Makeup can make any woman look better. You just have to do it right.
SW-User
@frequentlyme Eh. Even the so called “makeup-free” celebs wear makeup including Kiera Knightly. Anyway that’s your taste. I know for sure that I look and feel much better with makeup.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@SW-User Which is exactly what I was asking... why? I appreciate all the varied answers. Yours included.
SW-User
@frequentlyme Because it’s true? It makes one go from plain and average to good looking. I can feel it and see it. Maybe when I’m like 60 I won’t care.
SW-User
It makes me feel better to spend time taking care of myself. That's why I take care of my skin. That's why I meditate at the end of the day. A makeup routine has just become another part of my day where I can take some time to myself and feel grounded by something soothing and familiar. I don't think I need it, there are months at a time where I go without because I value sleep and other things more, but ultimately it's a way for me to take care of myself when I'm feeling upset/anxious. Something else to focus on.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@SW-User Okay, that's a perfectly good answer, and quite understandable - it's therapeutic. Thanks!
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
It’s not for men, it’s for women to feel better and prettier. I do it for myself.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Keepitsimple "I do it for myself". Got it, makes sense.

I'm too lazy to even comb my hair in the morning, let alone do make up. 😆😆😆
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@SW-User 😂 Seems smart to me.
Crickets · 46-50, F
I keep a natural tone look to myself. I like to use earth colors and not so much the red, blues, greens, ext. I feel "more of a woman" when I wear it only because it's a girl thing and I'm being just that.
Now if I had a daughter, going through all that work to have such a party is ridiculous. There's other kinds of parties I'd have with a daughter.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Crickets Perfect!
Gangstress · 41-45, F
I used to wear a bit of make-up to hardly anything. And I feel I look better without it on anyway 🙂

I used to hate how women used to go you should wear some make up you'd get yourself a nice man. Without makeup I got myself a gorgeous lady lol
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Gangstress Perfect outlook on the whole issue, and you got a gal who was attracted to the real you. It doesn't get better than that.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@frequentlyme happy days 🤗

Low self esteem, perhaps

It's a hobby
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I'm an old hippie and I've never had a girlfriend who wore makeup. Women paint a mask on their face and then wonder why men lie to them.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@hunkalove Yah, I'm a fan of the hippie no makeup era myself.
RainbowSprinkles · 26-30, F
My mum and grandmother have beautiful skin and I do too. It's good genes, staying out of the sun and minimal make up.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@RainbowSprinkles Exactly little one... the sun destroys beautiful skin.
JerseyGal · 51-55, F
[c=#002673]I can't speak for all. I do apply make up, but it is minimal. I have always made sure to take care of my skin so that when I choose not to apply make up, it makes no difference. I like a bit of lipstick, no eyeliner, small amount of shadow & lightly applied mascara. My natural color hair is such a light blonde that you cannot see lashes without mascara. I do not have to put anything on, but choose light amounts when I do. [/c]

@MegynK Exactly. Although age is/can be beautiful.
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
Haha are you talking about my post??
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@JarJarBoom Not sure, I just remember reading something about a makeup party which made me think of how much I like a natural look, hence the question.
My industry requires makeup. It's the job description.
