To serve a true friend is the highest honor.

These words, which I recently heard, have grown on me.
I believe it means that being of service to a true friend in their hour of need is the greatest honor one can have.

It struck a nerve, though I'm not sure why; I'm still trying to grabthe deeper meaning behindthis thought.

What do you think?

Because many people aren’t deep and caring enough to form bonds with people so close that they show up for them. I remember having friends like this, but it’s rare these days. I tend to treat everyone with love and I’m always depleted because people are often rude or short in return. Everyone is burnt out. It’s sad.

@AlchemyFox That way you said '..burned out' is striking. I've never heard anyone use that when discussing friendship.

Why do you say everyone burn out?

@Renkon Because there’s so many expectations on all of us.

What do you devote most of your day to? Likely work and chores. If you have a family, they need you too. To cook and clean. To do things fun or travel is expensive, reserved for the privileged. So a majority of us are absorbed in what we have to do to make it in this society.

To me it’s a worldwide issue. The peaceful cultures that Europe eradicated had it right. I doubt they were too burnt out to help their neighbors. They thrived. Today, humans just survive.

@AlchemyFox You make sense. But isn't there a way out? Shouldn't we make some change?
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
@Renkon Yes we definitely should. I have tried to be that change. I have tried to be a light for people, but I’m in so much pain now, so alone, I have nothing left. All I have I give to my son.

We could change, but many anre absorbed with superficial. We are desperate to be the privileged elite. We’re peasants and they’ve got us all so exhausted we turn on each other.

I don’t know what to do anymore. I gave it 40 years of my life and now I feel worthless and wasted.
