Gone but never gone

You came into my life
meeting from so far away
yet seeming to have been with me always.

I saw you as a man sees a woman and
judge you as the fool that I am
yet learning through the years
of loving care freely given to me
that your mind is so diverse with
a brain so sharp and kind.

Now you are gone and heaven welcomes
a soul that it recognises as
the real you, so hard for me to find in life.
A soul that fills my pitiful soul yet waits
for me on the other side
