I am going to argue from my perspective on this: You think the people getting wasted every weekend on parties and fucking around are any happier than you? The fact they even have to do these things are evidence of how they're escaping from reality, just like us. Like one of the messages of the bible conveys, "living" according to this world is a "chasing after the wind", you'll never catch it. You ever only get closer to true happiness between the moments you're letting loose.
