I Know What a Broken Heart Feels Like

I wish there was an easy answer for a broken heart...

It's been awhile now. I do miss you. There is still a hole there where loved used to live. But I don't sit around and cry incessantly or eat gallons of Ben and Jerry's. I haven't stopped showering and I don't refuse to go out with friends. I no longer believe my life will end without you near although the colors of my life are diminished without you there. All in all though, I've gotten through the worst of it, or at least I guess so.

But the heart. The heart is different now. Weaker. Less likely to believe again or take chances. Less likely to accept anyone at face value or beyond. The heart is jagged and scarred after this. Ugly. Sluggish and timid. Those things don't heal. They don't go away or miraculously get healed. We simply get used to dealing. Broken hearts are defeating. Limiting. They are a life long disfigurement we carry as bravely as we can.

Nothing feels the same. Looks the same. Nothing ever is the same.

Too bad there isn't just an easy answer.

I think, and hope, with time those jagged edges will smooth out.

Also, you will encounter some nice guy, perhaps, and he will make you throb.

@JoyfulSilence I choose my own path from here on out. I am in the driver's seat.
