Love Is Making Room for Someone to Become

I think loving your children, or loving someone deeply, can be a hard thing. It can almost feel possessive or even obsessive because you want them to be happy, you want them to be protected, and you want them to live the best possible life they can.

The hard thing is stepping back and letting them become who they need to become. Letting them face the world on their own and conquer it in their own way. They need to grow, find their identity, and become who they need and want to be.

It can feel almost too difficult to let them risk failure or discomfort on their own. But then there is this moment when you get to see them become who they are. You get to watch them rise and fall through life and its challenges. You watch how they celebrate the joy of winning, and you watch how they pick themselves back up after failure.

Of course, you will still be there to watch them and help them through things, especially if they come to you. But they might not come to you. They might have their own way, their own identity, and want to figure things out on their own.

If we dim their light and put them in a place that doesn't allow them to grow in this world, there is an identity within them that we may never get to see. I think there is a lot of love in wanting to see a person be able to be loud in this world.

More often than not, I have seen a culture where men have dimmed the light of women. They decided beauty standards, decided their roles in the home and in life, and never gave them the chance to step up and take control. But the more I think about what love is, and what it means if it is real, the more I think you truly want to see a person for who they are.

You want to see what they do. You want to see them in every part of life. You want to see them win, fail, grow, and become more of themselves because you love them.

When you really love someone, you really want to see them.

This is the kind of world I want to help create. A world where we want to see each other. A world where everyone has the opportunity to shine.

And I already know someone will come along today and try to dim me after saying what I have said. I know someone will make this about themselves or tell me why it can't be, or why I am wrong, and that is okay.

I will give you a heart, and you can forever shine here on my post, where I will let you be loud and proud.

Hardest thing for me as a parent was to step back and let them spread their wings.
@Jenny1234 but did you?

You already know I won't try to dim your light or anything negative. You always make me think about things more deeply than I sometimes do.
@WanderingHelplessly Thank you, it is good to reflect on life and discover new thoughts.
