The Growing Power of Ambivalence

Here within the distance
Inside all this time and space
The ambivalence is growing
To take up our love's space

The sadness that once was pain
The pain that now is fading
Replaced by ambivalence
And the changes it's creating

I feel my brain rewiring
I hear my heart constructing walls
I see my soul curling up inside
To make itself seem small

The memories still linger there
I can still recall the ways
Of how your love once felt to me
But it's like feeling through a haze

And I doubt I'll ever love again
For fear of all that pain
That drove my soul into the ground
And forced my heart to change
The growing power of ambivalence
Has my whole world rearranged

Perfectly written. Something does eventually take the place where love used to live. Ambivalence? Apathy? I can't say for sure. But is accompanied by a thick, heavy haze that's difficult to navigate. Perhaps though, it's a good thing - a buffer...an extra layer that not only muffles the noise, but somewhat dulls the sharp edges of the pain. The fear of losing onesself to that kind of pain again - *sigh* - the struggle is real.

@LadyBronte As it is with so many of my rhymes, some aspects are enhanced for effect and also because rhyme is a tough medium to share everything exactly.
I do hope to love and be loved again.
If it happens, I'm wishing for the type of love that doesn't leave me devastated.

Thank you for reading this and for your kind words about it's worth and the ones of support.
You're a good friend to me and I appreciate that.

@HikingMan Honestly, you have a talent for expressing thoughts and emotions well...drawing in the reader...and your words hold deep meaning. I am a fan of your writing - always have been. Perhaps you should seek to be published. There are so many hurting in this world who could identify and benefit from your words. I truly hope one day you find the love and happiness you are seeking. I will be happy for you, my friend. Until then I will be cheering you on!

I feel that. *sigh* I hope it changes for you, though. I read once that love doesn’t cause pain, expectations do. I hope you meet someone who knocks you off your feet, and you have the same effect on her.
