One less ocean
If butterflies could navigate oceans,
I wonder where they’d land.
Maybe beside the quiet souls
who sleep on the waves,
never loosening their grip
even when the current insists.
Maybe they’d understand
how strange it is
to miss someone
you’ve never stood beside.
How a continent
can feel impossibly large
on the nights
when all you want
is one less time zone
between two hearts.
Some stories are written in miles.
The best ones,
I think,
are written in the stubborn hope
that one day
there won’t be any left.
I wonder where they’d land.
Maybe beside the quiet souls
who sleep on the waves,
never loosening their grip
even when the current insists.
Maybe they’d understand
how strange it is
to miss someone
you’ve never stood beside.
How a continent
can feel impossibly large
on the nights
when all you want
is one less time zone
between two hearts.
Some stories are written in miles.
The best ones,
I think,
are written in the stubborn hope
that one day
there won’t be any left.
