Singed Wings, Seared Soul
I am a little moth, fluttering around your flame.
Wanting to get close, afraid I will burn,
and still I am not able to resist the attraction.
I fly first up, then down, looking for a place to land,
to rest, where there is enough warmth
but not too much. There is no such place.
You are all heat, everywhere on fire.
I dip, quickly dart in, and fall back away—
my wings singed at your touch.
The sensation is overwhelming.
Is this pain or pleasure? I am unable to think
clearly; instinct drives me to have another taste
of that searing experience.
You are luminous, softly glowing,
pulsing with energy.
I must embrace you!
With a final fling, I throw caution to the winds,
my wings streamline, I fly straight
toward the brightest central spot you are.
I am greeted by a gentle crackling that is the last sound I hear.
How beautiful you are! What took me so long to find you?
How could I hesitate to yield to your irresistible lure?
The brightness wraps around me and turns my agony into an ecstasy
in this eternal moment. I think back on my life of yearning, seeking, and finally finding;
my senses are overwhelmed and I am consumed with joy.
Your flames envelop me with a loving reassurance
that this is what I was made for! We become one in a flash,
now but a single moving image of the eternity for which we were destined.
