IMO, both guys and girls, (probably from the time they are teenagers,) visualize their "perfect" partner in their minds. Eventually, they all realize that the "perfect" partner doesn't exist, (although some come pretty close,) so we all actually end up settling for the one that comes closest to our idea of the "perfect" partner. This is not to say that we are settling for second choice, but rather we are being realistic.
