@Thinkerbell The first time I went there, the people I was with told me to act like it was no big deal. In other words, don't point at someone and yell "look at the knockers on that broad!" I was also told to lie on my stomach if I had an erection.
Nudism is not sexual, or at least, it's not supposed to be.
@Thinkerbell There were no guards or entrance gates. Anybody who knew where it was could go there. I occasionally saw families with kids there, but most of the patrons were old hippies.
I've never been to one, but there are nudist camps for families. Diane Arbus has a few photos from one in her An Aperture Monograph collection. As I said, nudism isn't sexual.
When I lived in rural Africa, I saw little kids running around naked all the time. Nobody cared.
@Thinkerbell You do know that NAMBLA hasn't formed chapters since the 1990s, had only 1000 members at its height, and has few to zero members today?
And yeah, not every culture is as hung up about nudity as ours is. It wasn't unusual at all to see women take their tops off if they were doing hard work in hot weather, same as a man might take his shirt off. Mothers nursed their babies in full view of everyone. Women were expected to be covered from waist to ankle, however, and to pray in the back of the mosque to avoid exciting men with their raised butts.
Really? If what you say about NAMBLA is correct, then it's welcome news. But of course maybe they are operating nowadays under the cover name of "minor-attracted persons." 🙄
And I always thought there were more dignified ways of kowtowing than what Muslims do in mosques. 🙄
@Thinkerbell NAMBLA hasn't really operated since the early 2000s and may not have any members now. There are, of course, other pedophilia advocacy groups, but you don't hear about them. NAMBLA had a few high-profile members which is why it's a household name.
The only way I saw Muslims pray was by kneeling, then sitting back on their heels and bowing forward with the arms extended until their forehead touched the ground. I'm sure you know my own view is that men need to control themselves rather than women staying out of view.
You dodged my point about the current euphemism for pedophiles being "minor attracted persons," Leo.
And you don't have to stick your butt in the air to touch your forehead to the floor. I tried it myself just now. Simply kneel, stick your toes out backwards and bring the backs of your thighs down to where they touch your calves. Then raise your arms, bend forward at the waist until your hands and forehead touch the floor.
Would be difficult only for someone with arthritic knees.
@Thinkerbell I don't know what you're talking about. If someone calls pedophiles "minor attracted persons," that's on them. Pedophilia is a crime.
However, this does raise the issue of how to deal with adults who do feel sexual attraction toward children, but are also aware of how harmful this is. Should they be allowed to discuss this with a therapist without fear of arrest? What if their desires can be satisfied with AI kiddie porn, so no actual children are harmed? Can we even have this discussion without provoking hysteria?
It's great that you figured out a way to touch your forehead to the floor without sticking your butt in the air, but there is a specific posture for Muslim prayer that adherents are expected to conform to.
Only if one ACTS on their pedophile desires. But NAMBLA (or their successors) are working on fixing that. And not so long ago, it was likewise a crime to ACT on homosexual desires (at least male ones), not to simply HAVE such desires.
" Should [pedophiles] be allowed to discuss this with a therapist without fear of arrest? "
Simple. Just tell the doctor they have an urge to have sex with children, without ever admitting that it actually happened.
" Can we even have this discussion without provoking hysteria?"
Hysteria? Where...? 🤔
"... but there is a specific posture for Muslim prayer that adherents are expected to conform to."
Undoubtedly there is... my point is that there are less profoundly undignified ways to kowtow.
@Thinkerbell Actually, a pedophile risks being reported if they tell a therapist that they feel sexual attraction to children, even if they haven't acted on it yet. Obviously, it's not a crime to feel attraction, but it's understandable that some people may not want the negative attention this brings. I don't see this changing as our current view of pornography is that it encourages sexual violence rather than providing a safe outlet for it.
And yes, there are different ways to kowtow, but I'm only aware of one approved form in Islam. I'm hardly an expert, so maybe we should ask a Muslim on here if there are alternatives.
Yes it would be interesting to ask an expert why Muslim butts stick in the air when they kowtow. Particularly if the guy behind you rises a little bit before you do, and finds your butt pointing in his face. 😳
