I don’t want anybody to be there when I get married and I feel like that’s normal even though it seems uncommon.

I’d want to have a party after with family + close friends + a photographer, but not really a big one. For the ceremony itself I just want me, my partner and the person conducting it. If I get married it’s not gonna be for show, it’s for the act itself. I don’t care about putting on for family and friends like that. Maybe it’s odd but maybe if more people thought like that we wouldn’t have 50% of marriages ending in divorce.

I got married at City Hall. There were the two of us, his brother & my best friend as witnesses, and some official (City clerk, I think) married us. The license cost $50. The parents threw a party afterwards which was the equivalent of the reception. Our plan was to enter the marriage as debt-free as possible.

I was widowed about six years later.
