I'm guessing it's the hormones and still getting adjusted to them...
I think teens fall head of over heels in what they believe to be love, no matter how good or horrible their home loves are...
As the hormones seems to make most rebel a bit and look for new attention, and when they finally get it and some pleasures, it feels like love to them.

@SW-User yes and the scary part, especially with the internet now, is that when smitten with someone, humans fill in the unknown with assumptions ... and those assumptions are usually wrong.
And with online, there is so much more unknown, and therefore weong assumptions.
