Love looks different sometimes
So I was having breakfast at the hotel, and there was this religious family next to me. The woman was covered entirely, and the man was wearing short jalabiya and was long bearded... His religious looks did not stop him for leering at me the entire breakfast, while of course his wife wouldn't notice a single thing since she was struggling to get food inside her mouth from underneath the niqab..
We happened to leave the hotel at the same time too... He was walking too fast, while she was miles behind him... which is something I noticed in almost every religious couple that I have seen (and many Arab couples which may or may have not been very religious). It is always the man walking fast, and she is running behind him.. I don't even see what's the fun in such a trip on the street, if you are not going to walk side by side to be able to talk..
Despite that this is an Islamic country, the majority seem like liberal secular people.. and I have to say, I have noticed that there is a lot of love and affection displayed between couples on the streets, without shame.. Something I am not used to seeing.. and something that most Arab couples wouldn't do, even if they loved each other... Because we have been taught and raised that love between our parents or anyone for that matter should be hidden, yet we were never shielded from fights, conflicts and even violence.
