Absolutely not, although some people seem to delude themselves into thinking they have something real and profound. I think it's more a desire for that place to be filled in their lives, rather than reality.

People can really present themselves as something they're not through solely online interactions. And they do. You definitely have to go beyond the message-only/online communication to truly get to know them. And if you're serious about a relationship with someone, they should be willing to meet you in real life, otherwise you have to question their motives.

I've been in an LDR for almost three years now, and I really didn't get to know my current partner until we went beyond the online communication. And when we finally met in real life, it added so many layers and depth to our relationship.
@TheFlippantSide all of this makes sense to me.
I do think we are all here, on SW, to fill some kind of void in our real lives, that we are all missing something and hope to find it here. Or at least be pleasantly distracted until we do
