Listening to Mark Vicente recently
I honestly don't know how I feel about him...
He claims he was oneof the major whistleblowers on the NXIVM cult, but his wifeleft it and told himthehorrorsthat were going on and he ignored her. He claims he saw a lot of the problems, but stayed in, only addressing it once with the upper circle. He didn't actually do anything till Sarah Edmondson's NYT article came out. Before then, he was still pretty much all in. Edmondso was the actual whistleblower. He only followed after. But he speaks as if he had always been in the trenches.
I only recently heard him finally admit hehas an issue with putting people on god pedestals and has strong hero worship. Before then, he has never seemed to take any personal accountability for his helping the leader rise to powerand even his current admission was fairly weak.
His early podcast episodes he talks about and to trauma informed psychologists people in the field of helping people once out of a cult, but I'm not sure how much of that he has utilized for himself or used to help him heal. He talks as though he is on the outside of everything, more an observer than a person who needs to be an active participant.
Moreover, I'm not 100% certain that he himself isn't a narcissist. He speaksas if he has a deeper awareness of things, but honestly, for all his verbosity and use of language, he's still at a baseline knowledge set, but seems to want to impress others he is very knowing and intelligent.
I know that the episodes I'm listening toare back from 2022, and it all blew up in 2019, so I'm sure a lot was still fresh, but he still bothers me, for lack of a better term. Maybe as time passes, my feelings will change. Maybe they won't. Who knows.
