Slaying Demons--A Story

Natalie kissed the screen of her phone and then looked lovingly down at the image on it. That soft half smile. That silky auburn hair. Those bright brown eyes so light they looked almost golden. She sighed, "Amy. Amy. Amy."

The fact that a simple picture of her best friend could make her heart leap so wasn't lost on Natalie. Amy had made her heart and mind and body leap for a long time, but no one--especially not Amy--knew it.

That was the problem. How do you tell your best friend you love her without possibly losing that friendship? How do you make her understand that it's not joust friend love but "make your legs shake, your tummy quake, your heart swell and your soul fly" L-O-V-E?

They'd known each other since 5th grade in Mrs. Johnson's class. Their friendship was forged in a project on plants. Natalie trekked out to the woods and collected all the leaves and roots and specimens, and Amy wrote up the report and designed the display. That's how they did everything--they split the chores to their strengths and trusted the other one to do their part. And they always did. They had been friends ever since.

But in the last six months that had changed for Natalie. Something shifted. Something slid inside her. She started looking at Amy and suddenly blushing. Shyly looking away when Amy asked what was wrong. She found herself wondering what it would be like to kiss those lips, to play with that auburn hair as she whispered in Amy's ear.

And that body! Just the thought of those small breasts and slim hips made her shiver. Omg how she wanted that body pressed up against her!

Now here she was kissing her phone screen for God's sake! All because she was scared to actually kiss the girl she loved. God, she was pathetic!

Natalie was startled when the phone vibrated and Bruno Mars sang "The Way You Are"-- her ringtone for Amy. She fumbled to answer trying to force the thoughts of breasts, hips, and lips from her mind.

"Uh, hey, Amy! What's up?" Trying to sound calm. Failing miserably.

"Not much. Just wanted to see if you wanted to watch Supernatural with me. I know you love it and I thought we could get popcorn and binge on it tonight."

Natalie's breath caught. Darkness, popcorn, Supernatural, and Amy all at once. Heaven!!!

"Sure. I'll be there in a bit."

Natalie couldn't remember anything else about that conversation because her mind was filled with kisses and hugs and making out. She was share she didn't fumble the end of the call too bad because Amy hasn't cancelled.

What to wear? Natalie wanted something soft and casual. She settled for some gray Soffe shorts and a purple tank because purple was Amy's favorite. Underneath she wore matching bra and boyshorts, gray with purple trim. You know, just in case, she thought and then giggled madly.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now it was dark and they were halfway through both a huge bowl of popcorn and season 1 of Supernatural. Sam and Dean were killing demons and Amy and Natalie were leaned against each other watching.

"I think it would be fun to travel the country together like that," Amy said. "Just you and me and a car."

"I'd like that," Natalie replied, leaning a little closer. Amy's eyes stayed focused on the screen. Natalie's eyes never left Amy.

"I mean like Sam and Dean," Amy continued. "Going around the country doing good deeds and saving people. Not like Thelma and Louise where they were just selfish and killed themselves."

Natalie laughed. "Well if I've gotta die, I don't think I could pick anyone better to die with." And she gave Amy a soft squeeze of a hug.

Amy turned and looked at Natalie and hugged her back. "Awwwww. You're the best, Nat! I love you!"

There they were. Face to face in the glow of the TV. Best friend looking into the eyes of best friend. Natalie felt a clutch at her heart. The timing was perfect. Now was the time to confess her love, to show her heart to her love. Natalie leaned in closer like she was going for a kiss. All the things she wanted to say, all the things she wanted to do flooded her mind and body, making her heart race and stop at the same time.

And then she stopped.

Bit her lip.

And simply whispered, "I love you too girl."

Amy smiled and turned back to the TV. "Sam or Dean? Which one would you wanna do?" she asked. "I think Sam is sooooo hot!"

Natalie mumbled something unintelligible. The moment was lost.

So she turned back to the screen and watched Sam and Dean kill a demon. A single tear dropped down Natalie's cheek as she wondered when...if... she would be able to slay her own demons.
