Where Shame Should Reign Instead (Something I wrote a long time ago)
Sorrow like a cheap suit
Hangs off my every limb
Impossible to miss it
I do not wear it well
The mirror mocks my laugh
It sees the sorrow there
The freshly painted face
Is not one of a clown
I hide behind insecurities
As I laugh at the absurd
Mocking others folly
Whilst seeing all my own
It is not pity that I seek
I only wish it were not so
Pointing out their failings
I cannot escape my own
Ignorance is indeed bliss
It makes the seeing blind
Able, then to tolerate
The folly of oneself
The fool blazes on ahead
The compass never inward points
And praises the accomplishment
Where Shame should reign instead
Hangs off my every limb
Impossible to miss it
I do not wear it well
The mirror mocks my laugh
It sees the sorrow there
The freshly painted face
Is not one of a clown
I hide behind insecurities
As I laugh at the absurd
Mocking others folly
Whilst seeing all my own
It is not pity that I seek
I only wish it were not so
Pointing out their failings
I cannot escape my own
Ignorance is indeed bliss
It makes the seeing blind
Able, then to tolerate
The folly of oneself
The fool blazes on ahead
The compass never inward points
And praises the accomplishment
Where Shame should reign instead
