I Love to Write

Capricorn in Aquarius - Part Two

The teacher waddled down the aisle, busily writing in her attendance book, glancing up occasionally as her steely gray eyes swept over the rows of kids. She frowned a few times, consulting her book, then glancing back up again, and nodding her head in a sort of satisfaction and moving on.

She came to the row I was sitting in, pausing again, frowning as she perused the row with narrowed eyes. I couldn't look up or directly at the teacher. I wished I were anywhere but here. My bravado was evaporating.

The teacher looked down at her book, one hand ticking off the students' names. Then she hugged it, still open, to her flabby chest and she began to count. I saw her lips moving, but with all the chatter around us, I couldn't make out the words. Evidently, she had discovered she had an extra student in the ranks, but she was unable to figure out where or who it was.

The lights began to dim as the cheerleaders, who had been doing their routines, raced off stage and into the wings. The teacher shrugged and moved on. I began to breathe easier.

Mr. Evans strode out from stage right, cradling his injured member now wrapped in a clean bandage of some type, still quite pale but more composed now. I stiffened until I realized he certainly couldn't see me this far from the stage, with the lights lowering every second. A couple of boys in the next row started to make teasing "Twilight Zone" noises to scare the girls in the row I was sitting in...

And then the auditorium went completely black except for the stage lights.

@english I'm sorry to hear that. You're welcome to leave if you wish and return later on. Even as a reader myself, I don't always finish a storyline at once.
