I Love to Write

I got a lovely review today! It fair cheered me up!

The author spins a fascinating tale in which traditional Scottish history is merged with mystic and haunting visions.
A fast moving story which combines suffragettes and women challenging a male dominated world and seeking lost climbers.

Mostly short stories and poetry (plus nine unfinished novels.)
Am studying Creative Writing at uni, and feeling almost ready to submit to journals.
My main interest in writing concerns environmental issues - some social as well, but I read in many genres.

What attracted you to writing, Helen?

warmly,
Manna Hart

@hartfire poems seem to be increasing in popularity again, so that may be good news for you. Short stories - an anthology?
Environmental is very current; you might get a decent readership for that!
I've nearly always written. My early stuff was about the nature I saw around our house, deer, bees, squirrels - and the trees.
I have stopped just now. I have not written for a good while, which made that review a surprise.

Am going fairly well at present.
My various writers and poets groups have segued online for the shutdown.
Peers are sending me their work for free structural, copy and proofreading. It leads me to hope there's a decent chance I'll be able to earn a living at it once the word gets around.
I'm feeling almost ready to start sending a few of my own pieces to literary journals.
And yes, an anthology for my first volume would feel very good.
I've written for years too, but it was only six years ago that I decided to take it seriously. Now it's several hours of most days; there's a sense of purpose and joy in it.
Your stuff about the deer, bees, squirrels and trees; I can guess you developed early the art of showing.
Your book (which I ordered online) hasn't arrived yet, but I feel sure that it must any day now.
How closely do you rely on life experience to create verisimilitude in your work?

@hartfire The descriptions in Scotland are all from life, and most of the people are too. Not all. In Dark Voyage I used names from ship's logs and descriptions from contemporary journals to get the atmosphere and characters as accurate as I could. My romances all contain real people.
@helensusanswift
I'm very much looking forward to it.
Thank you. :)
