Capricorn in Aquarius - Part Two
The inside of the living room smelled musty and damp. It was completely dark outside and there were no lights on. There were dolls and teddy bears all over the floor, with a couple of baby bottles with traces of milk inside.
Johnny let go of my hand and weaved toward a small table where a lamp resided. He tripped over a teddy bear and knocked the lamp onto the sectioned couch. He fell clumsily over it. I leaped to help him up.
"You all right?" I attempted to raise him to his feet and got a blast of beer-laden air. Anger took over. "For God's sake, Johnny! How much beer have you had today?"
Johnny got to his feet, towering over me. I cowered at the look in his eyes. "Who do you think you are, Kathleen? She nags me, too. Listen - I am of age and I won't - I wont -" He paused before resuming his blathering drunk.
" -take that from you. You say it once more, or anything like it, and I'll put you over my knee."
I subsided. He got the lamp righted and lit, then led me into the kitchen. He put on the overhead light, then sat down in Kathleen's rocker and gathered me to him, putting me into his lap. He began to rock the chair, a little bit violently.
"Listen, my baby, I can't wait much longer. You know you don't like school. I don't either. I want you to come with me."
