When I was 12 or 13, I would regularly throw a tantrum and march out of my parents' house, swearing never to darken their door again. I'd only relent when I'd get hungry and decide to give them one more chance. My favourite fantasy was of someone telling them I'd died; that would show them! There's a story something like that in "Huckleberry Finn" where "reports of his death were greatly exaggerated".

@alan20 I didn't really understand my own value for many years, so I was convinced as a teenager that for someone to be attracted to me I'd have to do something incredible. I'd constantly daydream about being in the middle of a robbery and fighting off the criminals and getting injured then having whoever my crush was fall madly in love with me.
