"Henry V" (1989)

In terms of film adaptations of plays by the Bard, I credit Kenneth Branagh with helping to make Shakespeare accessible to many who would not otherwise be interested or aware. These scenes of his St. Crispin Day’s speech still give me chills.

When I saw it in the theater, people were actually cheering !
Imagine that.

A Branner fan, but not if his Shakespeare.
@sunriselover Really ? Do you like Shakespeare ?
@bijouxbroussard Seen loads at the Globe. And the Nottingham Playhouse in my youth.
@sunriselover Ah, a purist. As I said, what I appreciate about Branagh’s adaptations of the plays is that they’ve made his (Shakespeare’s) work accessible to many people who might not have thought Shakespeare was relatable or interesting. If you’ve had access to the Globe, you don’t need mere films.
@bijouxbroussard I loved Branner’s portrayal of Wallander.

Yes, I feel Shakespeare should be seen live. I was nearly put off it for life at School.

Films are two dimensional.
@sunriselover I’ve enjoyed Branagh as Wallander, too.

@sunriselover @bijouxbroussard I really disliked Branagh's Wallander. I much prefer the original.
@ninalanyon personal choice. I found it gripping.

@sunriselover It was Branagh's portrayal of the character I disliked not the stories.
