It’s Come Down to This

so is this what it boils down to
sitting in the dark
the day is almost done
work is finished
thankfully the work day was over fast

I’m here in the dark
just watching the stories on my iPad
my belly is full
had my snacks that I couldn’t leave alone

I never learn, no I never do
been a lifetime of trying
but all I seem to do
is be crying all the time

I’m alone in the dark
alone in this place
I can’t even see the expression on my face
I’m just alone here with my belly full
in the dark
and this is no lark
not a walk in the park
there ain’t no easy steps
in a lifetime of bumps and hiccups

but hey, I helped one of my callers today
made some sense of what he didn’t understand
I was dispatched to help
and help him I surely did

thanks be to him who is my all in all
the one true king

I’m alone in the dark
with my belly full
and it’s ok if my life has come to this
because it’s here in this place
where I am meant to be
