Reflections of a Life
my young face, my small boyish nose
pressed upon the cold window pane of my old room
there I watched the world go by
the people and the cars
saw the seasons change
the skies be blue or gray
and the sunshine bright
dull or simply diffused
I would always live my life on the outside looking in
never was I the first to be invited to reindeer games
never the first; I say,
certainly, almost never
so I ran the streets
the paths, the neighborhood blocks
my often rebellious self took me nowhere beyond myself
never used that rebellious nature to get ahead
or simply think outside the box
cause I was a follower and never a leader
I was simply too scared to even try
and I'd cry, the most painful of cries
pressed upon the cold window pane of my old room
there I watched the world go by
the people and the cars
saw the seasons change
the skies be blue or gray
and the sunshine bright
dull or simply diffused
I would always live my life on the outside looking in
never was I the first to be invited to reindeer games
never the first; I say,
certainly, almost never
so I ran the streets
the paths, the neighborhood blocks
my often rebellious self took me nowhere beyond myself
never used that rebellious nature to get ahead
or simply think outside the box
cause I was a follower and never a leader
I was simply too scared to even try
and I'd cry, the most painful of cries
