Changing Seasons (writing challenge)

For @Harmonium1923’s writing challenge…

Sometimes the smallest things become a kind of anchor:
A warm cup of tea held between both hands.
The first soft signs of spring, when something that has been quiet for a while begins to stir again.
A hand reaching across the space between two people, asking without words, Are you still here?

Maybe that is what we are always trying to do.

Connect.

To another person.
To ourselves.
To something pure beneath all the noise, expectation, fear, and complication.

We collect tools for living.
Humor.
Music.
Memory.
Ritual.
A familiar voice.
A beloved place.
The quiet wisdom of the seasons.

Because there are times when we need to go dormant.
To retreat.
To rest.
To turn inward and let something old fall away.

Not because winter is something to survive, but because not every season is meant for blooming.

And then, eventually, something shifts.

We feel warmth again.
We notice the light.
We remember there are parts of ourselves that have been waiting beneath the surface.

And we begin to reach.

Even after disappointment.
Even after loss.
Even when the hand we hoped would reach back no longer does.

There is still warmth to be found.
There is still connection.
There is still spring.

And perhaps rebirth is simply this:
the moment we realize we are ready to bloom again.
