Fine Pencil, Lipstick and Rouge

the merry-go-round goes round and round, round and round
the music blares loud and strong

the merry-go-round goes round and round, round and round
a million happy faces, mixed with some sad faces that are trying to be happy faces
and in the mix some clown faces and frown faces
faces that want to just give up, but the hopes and the dreams
prop those faces up, hope is a good thing

sometimes I wonder though

are the faces we wear, are they real
or are they made up with fine pencil line, lipstick and rouge
and why does this matter
I guess they'll always be wondering and wanting
just dreaming another smile, another frown
