Lost in a Sea of Grief
I get lost in a sea of grief
All I can see is the winds and the waves
People are calling out to me
They are barely visible shadows
Somewhere far away
I get stuck in a mire of depression
And there seems to be no way out
I get hurt easily by those I love
Carless actions, insincere words
Doubt and sadness are taking over
I miss other people's grief
Struggling to paddle out of this sea
My own struggles consume me
While they threaten to swamp me
All of us on our own
A small shaft of light
Sent down in my direction
Sometimes gets ignored
And then I feel the anchor tug
Of my own conscience
We are not really alone
Not even in this present darkness
We are just awkward in our attempts
To pull each other to the shore
In this sea of grief
All I can see is the winds and the waves
People are calling out to me
They are barely visible shadows
Somewhere far away
I get stuck in a mire of depression
And there seems to be no way out
I get hurt easily by those I love
Carless actions, insincere words
Doubt and sadness are taking over
I miss other people's grief
Struggling to paddle out of this sea
My own struggles consume me
While they threaten to swamp me
All of us on our own
A small shaft of light
Sent down in my direction
Sometimes gets ignored
And then I feel the anchor tug
Of my own conscience
We are not really alone
Not even in this present darkness
We are just awkward in our attempts
To pull each other to the shore
In this sea of grief
