Summer After Dark…

The dusk had settled with a velvet softness over the lake house, painting the sky in hues of purple and orange that slowly bled into darkness. I watched you from the porch swing, barefoot with your toes curling into the cool wooden planks, a glass of whiskey sweating in your hand.
"Come down to the water with me," you called, your voice carrying on the warm breeze that smelled of approaching night.
I followed, my own bare feet silent against the grass that still held the day's heat. The air was thick with humidity, making my cotton shirt cling to my skin in ways that felt both uncomfortable and sensual. When I reached you at the water's edge, you took my hand, your fingers lacing through mine.
"I've been waiting all day for this," I murmured, bringing our joined hands to my lips, pressing a kiss to your knuckles. "Just us, the night, and no one to interrupt."
Your eyes glinted in the fading light as you took a sip from your glass, then offered it to me. The whiskey burned down my throat, a liquid fire that matched the heat building between us. I handed the glass back, my fingers lingering against yours.
The first fireflies began to emerge, tiny sparks of light floating above the grass like fallen stars. You pointed with your free hand, your laughter soft and intimate.
"Remember catching them in jars when we were kids?"
"I remember kissing you behind the garage that same summer," I replied, my voice lower now. "While our parents thought we were just catching fireflies."
Your smile widened as you set the whiskey glass on a nearby rock. Both my hands came to your waist, pulling you closer until there was no space left between us. The heat from your body seeped through your dress, making me shiver despite the warm night.
"I've wanted to do this again," I whispered against your ear, "since that night."
My lips found yours, tasting of whiskey and desire. The kiss deepened, our bodies moving together in a rhythm as old as time. The fireflies danced around us as if choreographed, their gentle light illuminating moments of our passion.
Your dress pooled at your feet, my hands exploring every curve, every sensitive spot that made you gasp against my mouth. The water lapped at the shore beside us, a rhythmic accompaniment to our growing need.
"I want you," you breathed against my neck, your fingers tangling in my hair. "Here. Now."
I lowered you to the blanket I'd spread earlier, my body covering yours. The night air was thick with heat and the scent of summer, grass, water, and something uniquely ours. My kisses trailed down your body, each one a spark that ignited a fire deep within you.
When I finally entered you, we both gasped at the intensity. The world narrowed to this moment, our bodies moving together, the fireflies witnessing our passion, the whiskey still warming my blood, your name on my lips like a prayer.
Time seemed to stretch and bend as we lost ourselves in each other. The moon rose, casting silver light across the water, but I barely noticed. All that mattered was the woman beneath me, the way you looked at me with such raw desire, the way you whispered my name as if it were the only word you knew.
As midnight approached, we lay tangled together, my fingers tracing patterns on your skin. The fireflies still danced around us, but their light seemed dimmer now compared to the fire that still burned between us.
"I never want this night to end," I said softly, my voice husky with emotion.
You turned to face me, your hand coming to rest on my cheek. "Then let's make it last."
And we did, through the darkest hours of the night, until the first hint of dawn threatened to break our spell. That summer night after dark became etched in my memory, a perfect moment suspended in time, when the world was just us, fireflies, whiskey, and a passion that refused to be extinguished.
