The system is broken.

My heart truly hurts for the family that are going to be effective by this. My heart hurts knowing so many people are going to be hungry, so many parents skipping meals, so many kids going to bed and hungry. I rather someone abuse the system then for them to go hungry. I am not on SNAP/EBT but there was a time it served its purpose. It helped put meals on the table for my family, it helped us manage to ensure our children didn’t go to bed hungry at night.

So many people live paycheck to paycheck, I am in one of those families, I often have to make a choice on which bill gets paid on time, we don’t live extravagant lives, we are homebodies, but we are all healthy and we can sometimes splurge on takeout for the kids, but that’s only because we are a two income family, a lot of families aren’t.

My heart breaks for the single mom who is currently in panic mode, counting how she is going to feed her family if the SNAP gets shut off, my heart hurts for the single dad doing it on his own, with no one to help, who now needs to figure out how he is going to afford 22$ cans of formula after losing his wife in childbirth. My heart hurts, for the kids who’s only meal might be the meals in school.

This is horrible what is happening. The system is broken, there are more people who need the system, and the system is failing them, we are failing them, we are all failing each other. I wish more than anything that I was in a position to do more to give back to my community but sadly, I’m not. I’d be folish to think that one person can change, but maybe if enough can, maybe one day, the system won’t be broken.

What's really making me upset is the people who assume everyone is abusing the system.
My daughter is disabled, she can't work ,she's an adult.
I know another family that jobs, both have one, barely pays for the rent and utilities and they depend on these food stamps.
Not everybody needs them of course, but it's going to hurt the ones who do; so we should not assume everyone is milking the system ,cuz that is just not true.
And I am not a liberal just to be clear.

@idontcareok yes they do but fed minimum is 7.25
idontcareok · 70-79, M
@WifeTanya that is very low, where you live what is state minimum
WifeTanya · 56-60, C
@idontcareok minimum wage varies state to state. Ours is 150 but many states it’s 7.25. Federal minimum hasn’t been raised in years.

i know it is horrible when 2 parties fight and use the people as hostage. my brother and his wife are sick. he has leukemia and they depend on food stamps to survive. i told them i would send them another 100.00 hoping this ends soon.

The system is broken because people are too blind to see that they voted for this.
Project 2025 is available to read. Go read it.
People are going to be hungry. They won't be able to afford medical care. People will lose their jobs. Their homes.
A hungry and sickly populace is very easily manipulated. Look how easy they are manipulated simply by instilling hate and fear. Add in some desperation and you have the perfect scenario. A mob of hungry, fearful, hateful people against those they hate so badly. Who, btw, will be hungry fearful and driven to hate as well.

When I go to the store and see someone stealing, I saw nothing! These are multi billion dollar corporations.

"But prices will go up.". Theft is already factored in. Let someone eat.
idontcareok · 70-79, M
well, give as mush money as you can, starve a little to help them, shelter them, drive them around, it seems you care so much, do as much as you can and more, sell a kidney, and a lung, that will help

@SomeMichGuy a few in my small town, 50 mile radius are bigger cities, that goes on a lot, not in my area,
@idontcareok So most of this is inference from others' stories.

Did you not report the two?

You got that right, way to many people miking the system and everyone knows it.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
It's not that difficult to put food on the table.

@JohnnySpot Glad it's not for you. For 41.7 million Americans, it becomes a choice of food, rent, utilities or transportation to work.

Maybe you can help by giving them food to eat.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@JohnnySpot it is for some with very low paying jobs, widows like me looking for employment , people who are disabled.
With high cost of living there's always someone who's going to fall through the cracks and to have no compassion is alien to me.

True.

DJT appeals to all the selfish instincts.

He asks us to be WORSE than what we typically are, not better.
And if that was not bad enough they want to end school meals taking food from literal children for ideology points.
