I Express Myself Through Writing
A cold brisk morning says hello as the old man slowly climbed out of bed. Remembering at that moment how lonely the winter can make a person feel. Pouring himself a shot of warmth as he readies himself to walk out and grab a new batch of
firewood.
Once all settled in and the fireplace is once again doing its yearly job of keeping the old mans rustic log cabin warm. He remembers back to when he first told her about the move they were to make up north. How she smiled and simply said ok , himself knowing deep inside she never wanted to leave her sweet Texas.
She was born and raised a Texas cowgirl, the summer heat as much a part of her as the southern drawl she spoke. A beautiful brunette in cowboy boots and jeans he could have sworn had to be as tight as a string on a old singing Cowboys guitar. She had the bluest eyes he had ever seen, thinking to himself that not even the Texas skies above her, seemed as beautiful.
He himself was nothing special , just a northern business man, at the time down south selling off some inherited land to a big oil company. He never considered himself much of a catch, just simply a regular everyday man. Tall and lean with a average body, never to be confused with a bull rider that's for sure. He had brown eyes with dark black hair and freckles through no fault of his own , scattered around the bridge of nose .
They had meet by accident he always beloved, two strangers walking along the Galveston beach at night. The cool air surrounded them , stars as far the eye could see, danced in the sky above. He couldn't help but notice the woman walking toward him. Even in the night darkness there seemed a glow that surrounded her. Beauty that no words could describe or any artist ever draw. Saying a friendly hello she smiled and at that moment he swore the world had to have stopped and all that mattered was situated in her clear blue eyes.
Somehow that night brought on more dates and there wasn't a time that her voice would fill his head, her scent linger even if she wasn't there. It was after many trips back to Texas , of course for business he always lied. He asked her to move to North Dakota with him . Telling her about the rustic log cabin and how some early mornings when sitting out on the porch sipping coffee , you could watch deer moving across his land . She seemed apprehensive at first, winter months were of no stranger to her but cold snowy winters now that was extreme.
Luckily for him she finally agreed and as he flew her up to North Dakota , they passed over the towering pines, his heart happy with dreams of a life fulfilled. She took to the change rather easy he thought. In short time she was waking early to watch the deer , helping gather wood for the fireplace and even now and then he would catch her making snow angels out in front of the cabin.
Those were the memories he held on to , never wanting to let go of the good times they shared. North Dakota was and always will be his home. The snow and towering pines just as much a part of him as those Texas cowboys back home were to her. Maybe he had asked too much of her , knowing it would be hard to hold such a beauty so far from home. That he thought as he gazed out on his 20 acre field , watching the flight of a eagle coming to rest in the pines. It was all worth a shot, to have loved only once with a angel from God himself, would be worth living forever in the Devils hell.
