ChampagneOnIce's Writing Prompts - Your Touch
Once in the drive she parked and gathered her stuff to go inside. She hung her keys on the peg at the note board and kicked her shoes off into the tray in the mudroom floor. She left her suitcase and work bag beside the shoe tray.
The smell of smoky bbq and collard greens cooking greeted her before she stepped into the kitchen. So did the begining of Alison Krauss's "When you Say Nothing at All" over the speakers. As she peaked around the corner, she could see him at the island shredding a pork butt into pulled pork. Half of a carved rack of ribs was already on a platter where he also plated the pulled pork. An open bottle of rioja and two glasses sat on the counter next to a dish of home made mac-n-cheese and skillet of sweet corn bread that had just come out of the oven.
"You ran the smoker today, in the middle of winter, and did all this?" she asked. He just smiled and shrugged. "I know my girl likes some nice comfort food at home after a trip. I made enough to freeze for some quick meals later too. Nice to see you back. How was the conference?" he asked as he washed his hands.
"Good, but maybe a day too long. I've been missing you.", she said, as she moved a bit closer to him. He dried his hands and opened his arms out from his sides as he took a step toward her. She didn't hesitate, stepping into them and settling against him. She had one hand on his upper arm, the other in the small of his back. The side of her head pressed lightly into his chest. He turned into her a bit and kissed her forehead. "Ive missed you too." he said as his arms encircled her. She laughed softly as she felt him begin to sway a bit to the music. She stayed nestled into his arms, joining him in a sweet slow dance. "I've really missed being held like this, the feel of your touch.", she said. She pulled back a bit and looked up into his eyes, her own bright and warm.
He raised his right hand to her neck, the fingers lacing gently into her hair. He lowered his head toward hers, their eyes holding the gaze until it was no longer possible. She met his movement, their lips brushing lightly against the other at first before parting and settling into a deeper, inviting kiss. As the kiss ended, she could feel his breath as he whispered, "I've really missed that". They don't pull away, and instead slip into another kiss. This one is a bit longer and hinting at a bit of heat building in their reunion. "Hmm, I can tell.", she said softly as she nestled back into his chest.
Their dance continued as the next song played and the promise of the evening settled in around them.
