February 10: Desire

Run your fingers through my hair.
Hold my head like you mean it.
Tilt my face to yours and kiss me as if restraint were a lie you’re done telling yourself.
Not careful. Not polite.
Kiss me with the kind of hunger that leaves no room for doubt.

Let me feel it.
Let me take you into me, into the places I don’t let many names reach.
Into my heart, my body, my soul.
I want to breathe you until you become unavoidable.

There is too much I want with you.
Too much to pretend is reasonable.
Too much to keep contained.
I want to know you with my hands, my mouth, my mind.
I want to discover you the way fire discovers oxygen.

It isn’t fair, this wanting. This slow, merciless turning of the tables.
I hate it. You know I do.
This pull. This gravity. This ruthless need.
I know you’ve felt it in the ways that feed your ego,
and in the ways that leave us both a little wrecked, a little undone.

Why you? I don’t understand it.
But I love that you can do this to me.
That you can wake this depth, this heat, this dangerous, beautiful ache.
Some desires don’t just make us feel alive.
They burn through every safe version of us and dare us to follow the flame.
