There was no single event that led to it. It happened one slight, one cut, one dismisal at a time. It wasn't really perceptible in real time.
It took a betrayal and trying to piece things back together afterward to realize it was true. On looking in the rear view, the trail that led to it was clear. I had lost myself somewhere along the way.
Time spent in nature gave me clues. It revealed paths where I recovered some parts of myself, recouped some of the cost.
I learned more from the writings of Muir, Kerouac, Hemingway, Poe and Frost.
I'll never stop looking to find me. I will always continue to wander, even though I know I am no longer lost.
