My toaster has opinions...
For reasons unknown to me it doesn't like rye bread, finds it common. 🤷🏼♂
It considers a perfect bagel to be its highest artistic calling and will burn any slice of sourdough as a protest against what it calls "its spongy arrogance." I know this because it communicates with me by manipulating the darkness. If you look closely at the toast, you can see the patterns. A single scorch mark in the upper left means it's displeased with the electricity quality that day. A series of small, round burns is a critique of my choice of jam. This morning, it produced a perfectly golden-brown slice of brioche with a single, unmistakable image in the centre, a middle finger. I ate it anyway. It was delicious. The toaster and I have an understanding.
