Are you good at writing resumes?

A friend of mine suggested I rewrite my resume to highlight more things outside of my current field of work since I am trying for jobs out of my career field. She's right my resume is all geared toward my current specialized skills. I just suck at writing resumes I never know what to put. I just want to say I am a hard worker, quick learner, and consistent. Why do we need all this fluff ?😣

Linkedin. It works. Ive been retired for 5 years and I still get people contacting me to work for them.

Work it! Work it! Work it!

I absolutely hate and despise writing resumes.

@CrazyMusicLover Cover letters are even worse, or anyway, analogous questions during the interview

Explain why you're applying for the job

"Because I like being able to afford a house, food, water and heating, f*ckers" 🙆🏻‍♂️

@Elessar Yeah, cover letters 😩

Terrible. I hate that shit. I’d rather just talk to them.

I have written over 100 but I am careful about advice since the styles of resumes have changed over the years and it has been since 2007 since I have written any.

What I enjoyed was writing new skills down for someone and they were shocked to see them on a resume and it actually gave them a confidence when they said “Yes that’s me!”

I am not great. I looked at examples online. Also you can go to unemployment office and they help people find jobs and resume.

@SW-User Unemployment office can still help. If you need assistance with resumes or a computer.

Pick up “knock em dead resumes” by Martin Yate. He also offers books on interviews and searching. This is one of the most helpful series of books I have ever read.

@Sunujing thank you I'll look into that

@SW-User latest editions are available on Amazon. I think current is the 12 edition. He updates it every couple years to reflect the current market. I read this for the first time almost 25 years ago

Soft skills are nice cause they are transversal to every field of your life... so to every work field as well...

Also volunteering stuff and belonging to associations.... I guess that's how you say it...

It's all marketing for the most important product. You.
You are selling yourself to anyone that finds your product appealing.
That is all it is.
Nope. And the one person who is great at it is tech industry focused.

No I am not good at it haha
I share your frustration
