Been writing again

I have been writing and aiming for about 4,500 words per chapter.

Fun fact! I've never written anything longer than 35,000 words before.

I'm a short and sweet, right to the plot and make a mad dash to the end kind of writer. I generally plan the story out.

There are things about writers that have always perplexed me, such as:

"My characters just run amuck doing whatever they want to do!"

"I love seeing what sadistic things I can get my characters into!"

"I have no idea where this story is going! I'm just here for the ride!"

They perplex me because...if you are the author, how does any of that happen? (Aside from the sadistic thing, which I still don't get because I want my characters to succeed, whole and mentally intact.)

Well...

I have given myself license to simply just write. Fill the chapters while taking mini steps towards the plot. Explore. Experience. Just exist in this story.

So now I can honestly say, my characters just do whatever they want. I just add in small plot details here and there. Most of it I never thought of at the onset, but now that it's there, we'll, okay...let's do that. I'm still not sadistic, but I can say I'm here for the ride.

Also, the things I have researched has kind of blown my mind.

Did you know that in the years from 1840 to 1860the following all happened:

The American Civil War
The Gold Rush
The settlement of the American west
The Spiritualist movement
The Sufferage Movement
The railway race

History in schools really need to provide actual time lines that show how many things were happening all at once in the US at any given time instead of making them all sound like independent events that happened one after the other.

I have been completely fascinated by all of this.

I've noticed that too, history often happens in bunches.
Good luck with the book!
