Next Step

Standing at this crossroads with no idea which way to turn
Before me is the future which seems burned and gone
Behind me is the past to which I do not want to return
My head spinning with more inside than I could contain

The ground beneath me but not knowing where to go?
is it safer to take a step forward even if that moment is gone
Should I continue to take comfort in what is offered to me
Even if it just feels like for them it is just filling time

I know behind me is nothing more than eventual surrender
A spiralling fall into the abyss that surrounds the life I am in
But how long can I continue to stand here holding my ground
What awaits in the future and what is the next step I need to take
