Soft isn't better

The couch for a bed and a single pillow for my head
Like a lodger in my own home as I try to fall asleep again
Thoughts of the place that my life has ended up in
The darkness of those thoughts filling my head

Struggling to switch my mind off so I can fall asleep
Find something in my dreams that might give me reason to believe
But sleep is lost in the blink of an eye as the alarm wakes me once again
My eyes open to the darkness of the room as the day begins

Thoughts of something better swirling around my head
My body aching from the surface I had slept the night on
Long since I had felt the comfort of a bed and the pleasure it brings
But knowing what waits beyond that door I know that soft isn't always better
