Wide Awake

Lying here in the dark with my eyes staring up at the ceiling
Tonight is one of those times that sleep will just not come to me
Even with the coolness of the room and the silence I cannot peace
My head is full of questions that my mind needs the answers to

No matter how I try I just cannot turn off the thoughts of you
So many different things and all centered on you as I try to fall asleep
A mass of jumbled thoughts that makes finding those answers even harder
A sense of frustration running into the happy thoughts of times gone by

I know that eventually sleep will come, but no matter how hard I fight I will not win
My breathing slows as I begin to relax and find the focus I need as I think of you
So many words and so much time had been spent as we forged ahead
Wide awake in the darkness of the room, only time will bring me the peace I need
